Hi Rob,
I couldn't agree more on being satisfied with the rotary pump. What I
have read regarding manual pre infusion indicates 2.5bar is required
to saturate the puck.  My current setup limits me to 1.5bar which I
discovered did not saturate the puck all the way to the center.   I
have ordered a watts pressure regulator and may repeat the pre
infusion at 2.5 bar.  As Dennis said I am not sure there is any
advantage to manual pre infusion.
When you checked the puck did you dump it and check the bottom of the
puck?   Mine was wet on the top but there was an inverted cone of dry
coffee in the puck.
