what i do is put in the blind portafilter, pull the lever up, and when
pressure starts to build loosen the handle on the portafilter. usually this
will force the gasket out part of the way. if that doesn't work i screw a
self tapping screw into the gasket and pull it out with pliers. i've only
had to use the screw a couple of times, most of the time the water pressure
will force it out enough that i can get it out with a flat blade
screwdriver.
