I don't see how this is possible (not needing to de-scale).  As an aside, I do 
not use the softener, which I found to be worthless in the couple of years I 
did use it.  If you look at consumption of salt in a typical water softener, I 
am very skeptical that a periodic "recharge" of that filter does anything 
beyond about a day or two.

I do know that my hot water dispenser line from the boiler is totally blocked, 
and have to assume that's from scale.  Perhaps there's a way to get something 
through it backwards from the top, i.e. pipe cleaner or similar, so that I 
could get some durgol flowing into it.
