Greetings all, Thank you for the advice on my other email regarding my boiler leak. Todd suggested I use an impact wrench and Eric suggested a strap wrench to hold the boiler.
Many thanks also for advice regarding pipe thread tape and compound. After all that, I believe I've got this beat. Even though I did use the strap wrench, it wasn't clear if I even needed it. The impact wrench has no problem removing the frozen boiler element and I don't think there was any torque on the boiler itself. I ended up using a paste thread compound rather than teflon tape. That too was easy. If I needed to do this again, it would be pretty easy work. Here's one thing that came of all this. I wasn't sure how to empty the boiler before removing the heating element so I didn't bother. I just put a towel down and let the water pour out. It's only a litre or so, so the towel soaked it up no problem. I noticed a LOT of scale, almost like fine gravel. I've descaled a couple of times but there was still a lot of scale that came out of the boiler when I drained it. Maybe I should think of doing something similar with the steam boiler as well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Brewtus" group.
