It really all depends on your water. My water is alkaline and doesn't scale it will however eat up copper eventually. Depending on your water you may or may not have scale. If you haven't had any scale buildup in your how water wand or steam wand you will probably be fine not descaling. It's a lot of effort if you don't need to do it.
