Hmmm. libbridge may work in a pinch, but we are programming in Java and would need to use JINI to do such a thing. The nice thing about kernel /proc interfaces is that they're just regular files and very easy to manipulate in Java.

We will keep looking - I'm going to dig out the source this afternoon. Thank you for your rapid responses. I appreciate your help.

Perhaps you could link your program to libbridge that comes with
bridge-utils and get the info that way?

We know about brctl, of course. It is better, however, to manipulate, and especially to gather data, via the /proc kernel interfaces. Their formats change less often than text output and generally are easier to machine read rather then spawning an external program (not to mention that they are often orders of magnitude quicker).
