It's emotional for him. (Brin I mean) I'm not so much defending him as
saing I understand: he's Jewish by background and his famlly was affected
by the Holocaust. This makes him very judgmental about whta he\\ perceives
as even vaguely crypto fascist (You shoulda seen the screed he wrote
aainst Ralph Bakshi's Wizards; practically called the cartoonist a Nazi.)
I think it's forgivable given that you can't be Jewish and not have been
touched by the Holocaust; and if Vader is a Hitler-like figure, how could
you not be judgmental? Lucas' theme is the redemption of Vader; but to
Brin there is no redemption....I wonder - Lucas is pretty close to
Spielberg and Spielberg is Jewish for heavens sake, so the Hitler analogy
must not occur to either of them. How could you be a crypto-fascist
Jew? Or a crypto-facist whose best freind is a Jew? Oooh, people with Jedi
powers! Master race! Whoa! Altho I don't *think* Lucas really intendedto
portray Jedi as a master race consciously, anyway....well, if they get foo
full of themselves about how they are Better an should Be in Charge, I
supose they become Dark Jedi. Not just negative emotions, but ego.
