Actually, I thought Brin's article was exceptionally logical. I loved 
Star Wars as a kid and I still love it to some degree, as a lovely little 
fairy tale, but Brin neatly puts his finger on many of the real weak 
points that Lucas either couldn't or wouldn't address. It's a nice enough 
movie, but one is allowed no sympathy for any of the bad guys, except 
Vader, making it overly simplistic; one is given constantly contradictory 
messages as far as the main "moral" point is concerned (hate is bad bad 
bad, but at the same time there's nothing wrong with Leia? What?); and 
all the stuff with Vader is just plain silly. I'm willing to accept that 
Luke forgives him, and even that we, as viewers, are willing to at least 
partially forgive him, but the intimation at the end with the appearance 
of Vader's ghost that the universe at large has forgiven him is stupid.
