If so, then she was a good actor. As I recall, she just barely
remembered (or was she reminded?) to take the knife along. She was almost
out the door, and then went back and got it. My interpretation was that
she improvised the whole rescue once she was captured.
I presume that _Inversions_ was discussed on the Culture list
when it first came out. But I haven't gotten up my courage to try and
find things in the archives, yet.
