If they want to talk to me, they can darn well have a HUMAN immediately
available.  If they're not going to extend to me that courtesy, they don't
deserve to talk to me.

Another annoyance is, the phone rings, you pick up, and then there's just
a click of hanging up or something.  Some of the telemarketers have
systems that will dial more numbers than they have support for, hoping
that SOMEONE will pick up, and if too many someones pick up, some of them
just get disconnected.  It's incredibly annoying.  (With a wrong number,
you at least have a 50/50 chance of a brief and courteous conversation,
making picking up the phone a less futile action.)
