Thank you Gord for a lovely and thoughtful post.  Hits the nail on the
head, as far as I'm concerned.

I sometimes feel that we're still running the beta version of democracy
here in America, or perhaps we're running Democracy 1.0 while everybody
else is running something between Democrocacy 2.0 and 3.1.  But we're like
one of those giant companies that runs on mainframes developed in the
seventies and refuses to change because the up-front cost of changing is
so high.
