TNOTB (and the pseudo-sequels _The Cat Who Walks THrough 
Walls_ and _TO Sail Beyond the Sunset_) is made for those 
that had read *all* other books.

There's an interesting analysis of TNOTB, that suggests
that Heinlein wrote it in self-mockery. All the references
to classic sf happen immediately after boring character
building that is purposefully stereotypical - like he 
was saying "don't do as I am doing now, but do like that 
Master did".

And the book has wonderful timeline stuff O:-)
