Hmmm....

Well, if you can assemble IT from premade components with a screwdriver
and some wrenches, IT probably doesn't have a lot of electronics inside. 

IT's fun (maybe), fairly cheap, people might not be allowed to use IT, and
they may build cities around IT. That suggests some form of
transportation. If IT was a new kind of computer or a tabletop factory,
they wouldn't need to build new infrastructure.

They say that IT will change lives and effect social institutions,
replacing dirty dangerous and  frustrating things that we use already.
That sounds like cars to me. :)

And Kamen is an avid aviator.

All in all, I'd have to go along with the suggestion in the report that
says IT is some sort of transportation device, possibly involving
aviation.
