Heinlein was being silly, I think, or trying to point out how ridiculous
the inches/feet/yards/miles system was. I remember snorting a bit at that
one when I read the book for the first time. (Someone has already posted
a correction.)
I have a circular slide rule that belonged to my father; it's got a bunch
of little conversion tables. Do you want me to copy some of those down
for you in a separate e-mail, Alberto? I can do it as just plain text, or
do it up in Excel for you....
