I was raised with Celsius, so it's always a strange experience watching American weather reports, with (what sounds like) incredibly high temperatures. It's kind of jarring to come across measurements in feet and Farhenheit when reading magazines like "National Geographic," too. Through long association they've come to seem like "our" magazines, but the Imperial references are a reminder that they come from another country. It's odd, actually: with our cultures so totally in sync it seems quite natural to talk about Madonna or George Bush, but that measurement system is still a barrier. Kevin Street
