But there were far more than 2 candidates! By my count: Bush, Gore,
McCain, Bradley, Forbes all had very realistic shots. You could also toss
in people like Buchanan, Nader, Kasich, L. Dole, etc. who were certainly
*serious* about running, but did not have broad-based support.
At some point, I think any effective electoral system will pose a choice
between two alternatives. Otherwise you end up with the possibility of
Candidate C winning, while at the same time being the last choice of a
majority of the people.
