The Tardis is sometimes portrayed as living, or even sentient.

The TV series occasionally referred to it as having a personality, but
it didn't have any effective way to communicate.

The spin-off books, which don't have a reset button, took the idea further
There were tardises that looked human on the outside, to human eyes (though
the real appearance of all tardises is apparently a Lovecraftian
monstrosity).
