        i agree.
        actually the ship is self-aware - but the writers and characters
have never admitted it. 'The Doctor' is proof that the ship itself is
a 'person' - he is a sentient program running on the ship's hardware
and interacts via a holographic display. but they've never made the
conceptual leap to realize that the established fact that 'The
Doctor' is a person means that the ship itself is a 'person'. perhaps
this is because they persist in having 'The Doctor' appear to emulate
a human in every way possible....
        it would be nice to have 'The Doctor' undergo a little
'consciousness expansion' and become 'The Ship' with 'The Doctor'
being one of 'his' avatars. (but then someone would suggest that
'Voyager' is ripping off 'Andromeda'.)
