What are you looking for in a restaurant? Price range? Cuisine type? I
mean, I know one of the chefs at Jean-Pierre's Upstairs, but that's
probably not reasonably priced and I know it's not "typical" Austin fare.
There are a number of places that do "Southwest", if you're interested.
Also, what part of town will you be staying at?
And would you be available for me to actually take you to lunch on
Thursday or Friday of next week? (My mom is here until Wednesday morning;
she'll probably actually leave about a half-hour before I have to leave
for my currently-monthly pre-natal checkup, so Wednesday isn't so good for
me....)

Let's see -- there are various museums around, you really ought to see the
Capitol if you're going to be downtown anyway, there's the Stevie Ray
Vaughn statue on Town Lake, there's a big outdoor bat sculpture near the
Congress Avenue Bridge; this isn't the right time of year to see the bats,
or I'd recommend that. (July and August are the best months for watching
the bats come out for the night....) There's a rodeo going on, starting
this Saturday and lasting through the 17th, if you wanted to see a rodeo
and could make the time for it (and had a way to get there!). I've taken
my sister on a dam crawl, which we both enjoyed, but that's not everyone's
thing (see 3 dams! whee!). There are scenic drives and scenic spots.

What kind of music are you after? I kind of like KGSR, 107.1, which has a
little bit of this and a little bit of that; they have a website at
http://www.kgsr.com , if you want to get a feel for what they're like;
there are lots of other stations as well.

I'm not sure that walking around an exhibit hall is my idea of a fun time
right now (my poor feet!), but I might change my mind. :)
