I've thought for a long time that companies ought to run a knowledge
quiz based on their commercials. Something that would require people
to *watch* the commercials if they wanted to have a good chance of
winning. And perhaps a Creative Writing contest for critiques of
their commercials. Commercials as soap opera (there was a great
series of coffee commercials several years ago). In other words make
commercials that people will want to tape and watch, and commercials
that - if you're watching a tape - you'll want to watch. People tend
to be loyal to a product that they are involved with. (i never buy
freeze-dried coffee, but if i do it will be the one i think is from
that coffee commercial...'Folger's Crystal's'? 'Folger's Gold' in
Britain i think.)
cheers,
christopher
