That's not always true.  I can remember series of several dreams in a row.
I've relayed a complicated narrative to my wife soon after waking up on a
number of occassions.  I sleep lightly, so I wake from dreaming easily.  I
can, though, spend a pleasant hour half asleep and dreaming.
