Reminds me of the early days (OK, the late 1970s) when things like 
calculators, digital watches, and other electronic gear came mostly from 
Japanese manufacturers, and the instruction sheet or manual that came with 
the item had clearly been translated by someone to whom English was not a 
native tongue.  In fact, I frequently suspected that it must have been done 
by someone who actually knew _no_ English but who simply looked up Japanese 
words in a Japanese-English dictionary and wrote down the translated words 
in the order they would appear in Japanese.  Example:  "The battery is 
needed for operation of this."
