Um, speaking as a half US / half brit bloke, id say it can get complicated,
and if keeping your US citizenship is important to you, check it out with the
embassy in Israel when you get there.
The way i understand it is this (though they change the darn laws in the
states covering this so often its hard to tell)...
America doesnt recognise multi-citizenship. As far as they are concerned, I
am american. They send me a nasty tax form each year by airmail (which i HAVE
to complete and return,ARRRRGH!!), and i get to vote if i ever find a
candidate worth the effort.
Now the UK govenment, they say i'm dual national, and recognise both, so I
have both US and UK passport. BUT - i can be refused entry into the US for
using a UK passport - because they dont recognise my british half. Confused
yet?
It gets worse. I can not work directly for any UK govenment agency without
losing the US citizenship, and that covers everything, form an office clerk in
the local council to a career in the military.
But um....then again......you could ask the question, how would they know?
personally, i dont want to take the risk - id much rather lose the british
side given half a chance.
Tim Betz - an english-american American citizen.
