In my experience, before you can start a defrag, windows automaticly runs
Scandisc, which does get rid of some trash for you. Mostly they are loose
bits of code that were never adequately removed by Windows or other
programs, I think. This is one of the big knocks against Windows IIRC.

The Windows CD has a few utilities on it that you can access to do some of
those chores if you feel like looking for them.
