It attaches to the bed to keep it stable & safe.

I've gotten to the point where I can lift him while I'm standing at the
foot of the thing, but I wasn't able to a week ago. (Dan's been doing
that since the day we brought Sammy home.) So I can set him down, get out
of bed, and pick him up again, but that can be a little bit of a hassle.
Then again, if I wanted everything to be hassle-free, I shouldn't have
gotten pregnant in the first place. :)

Now, the crib we have for him in the other room is on wheels, but it's too
wide to go through the doorway, so the plan of just wheeling the crib into
our bedroom when we have company when he's older isn't going to work out
so well. :( Gotta do something about building a house on the land we
bought for the purpose, so we have more room for guests. (It's going to
be interesting come Thanksgiving, as there's no way to have a house
completed before then, and we'll be having to put up Dan's parents and his
brother. We'll manage, though -- we always do.)
