Does anyone have any pointers that would help easily distinguish these dialects? >> Well, to start with, there are many "English" accents - Cockney, Yorkshire, midlands, west country, Liverpool (several of those), etc. (Plus Welsh and Scottish - lowland, highland, Glaswegian - Belfast, Irish.) Not to mention the RP. You have to be more specific. It's hard to describe a sound using words. I can recognize many of the different ones, and I could point them out, but I'm not sure I can describe them in print. Tom Beck
