Probably both. The group I'm in now is playing 3 separate campaigns,
alternating every week. 2 are GURPS (my supers campaign and then GURPS:
Traveller), and one guy is running "7th Sea", a really fun swashbuckling
game.

I really like it - I don't go for the "gearhead" rules that require all the
math, but for me, GURPS works fine without that. D&D3E didn't wow me - I
was always fond of the simplicity of 1st edition, and if I want nostalgia,
I'll dig out my 1st Ed books to play. Just my preference, though. YMMV.
In related news, did I mention that Steve Jackson Games is working on GURPS:
Uplift 2nd Edition? I'm really looking forward to this, as I've been unable
to find a copy of Uplift for less than $75.
