How about: Wilson conceptualized the League of Nations, Europe made it a
reality but, having been left in the lurch by the U.S., it failed miserably.
Then, after many millions of people were killed and priceless artifacts were
destroyed in a second world conflict, the U.S. jumped on the bandwagon and
revived the idea.
