One other disadvantage to wind farms: they kill birds. One of the largest Golden Eagle populations in N.A. is in the Diablo Mts. east of here. There is a large wind farm at Altimont (near Livermore). It so happens that the area that the wind farm occupies is an area used mostly by juvenile Goldens before they are able to stake out their own territory. The Department of Energy is studying the problem by capturing eagles and fitting them with radio backpacks. Sigh, just can't win... Doug
