I dunno, on the one hand I find the shrieking soothing, but all this
non-lurking is very unsettling. :) But seriously, I fear that I can't get
too into the research you gave because of time constraints, but I will look
at it.

What I've always found amazing about this list, and I'm not saying it's a
negative per se, is that it routinely has lengthy, no wait, make that
LLLLEEEEENNNGGGTTTHHHHYYYY discussions about two of the most taboo subjects
there are to discuss in a social setting: religion and politics.

And not just a little, but *copious* e-mails on it. There are times when
reading it is fun, and times when reading it is tiresome, and the naughty
temptation of the delete button cannot be avoided. I'm not surprised that
n00bies to the list show up so rarely. It can be a little daunting, I
imagine.

To maybe get things on the list, if not to shiny happy people land, at least
out of angry acrimony land, I picked up a copy of Neil Gaiman's new novel,
American Gods. I hope to make the time to read it this week. Perhaps I'll
post a little review, as I think his work is likely to be to some folk's
taste around here.

Maybe some pleasant conversation about, y'know, books 'n' stuff might let
everyone simmer down a notch.

Sorry about that. It's the ADD, I think. ;) Anyway, I thank you for the
link. I added it to my favorites for later reference, when you get the
discussion going.
