I have heard that Osama bin Laden has pilots on his payroll. If that's
the case, it could be him. If it's not him, then if one terrorist
organization can be paying pilots capable of hijacking and then flying a
plane, another one could, as well. Or a few rogue pilots could plan &
execute this. (This is pure speculation and hearsay.)
I'm sick over this. My sister Jan, like JDG, works in DC, but not for
the government, at least; and unlike JDG, lives in the city proper. She
lives in a part of town that wouldn't be targeted in all likelihood,
though, which is some comfort, and we have heard from her today. (She
sent e-mail from work before she went home. No e-mail at home, though,
so we now have to rely on the overloaded phone system to hear from
her.) Dan also has a cousin whose husband was, at one point, working in
the World Trade Center; it's entirely possible that she's a widow now,
and I feel awful not knowing yet, and chilled that it's possible. They
have one son, and I can't help but put myself in her shoes, and it
terrifies me to think of losing Dan and having to raise Sammy without
him.
I haven't seen anything on TV yet; I was sleeping late (Sammy was awake
past 3AM) and Dan came in and told me, prefacing the news with "Jan's
OK". I'm not sure I want to see any TV coverage on it now.
