My point exactly - the more letters after your name, the higher the expectation
of average word length. What seems complicated to an undergraduate is chatty to a
professor.

Very true - I guess we just get used to the language we see in our own field.

Who would be the intended audience of your dissertation (other than the assessing
panel, of course) - does it have what the marketeers call a target audience?
