> Behalf Of Doug > > Netball??? > OK. Netball is a variant of basketball that is pretty strong in the remains of the British Empire. Yes, it's another sport the Brits invented so they could routinely be beaten at it. Netball is very strong in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Caribbean.
For a quick summary of the game, see http://www.netball.asn.au/about_the_game.htm For further rules, see http://www.netball.asn.au/about_rules.htm The main points of difference in netball are: 1. Almost entirely a women's sport 2. Court is divided in thirds and ball must be touched in each third before scoring a goal. 3. Players are restricted to one or two thirds of the court. Frex, a Goal Defender cannot leave the defence third, the Goal Attack cannot leave the goal circle, and so on. Actually, I think the Centre can move into each of the 3 thirds, but cannot go into the attacking or defending goal circles. 4. Players cannot run with the ball, no dribbling, no bouncing. It is pass, stop, shoot. Still can be played very quickly, and can be hell on knees and ankles. (One daughter has done her achilles once and her knee another time while playing netball) 5. No backboard to the goal. The Australian team (can't remember their name) is of course the reigning World Champion team. Brett
