Well, if there was bombing in the cities, there probably must have been
special forces forward observers to guide the bombs in.  If you can
paint the target with a laser the bombs are many times more accurate.

I just hope that eliminating the Taliban is a goal of the US
leadership.  Although they haven't said so publicly so they don't
frighten our Islamic allies, I can't imagine anyone being happy until
the Taliban are gone.

Everything I've read indicates that the Taliban is very vulnerable and
could be toppled pretty easily.  But the trouble comes *after* the
Taliban have gone.  How is Afghanistan going to be governed?  The US
will be somewhat limited in what it can do, since we have to keep our
Islamic allies happy and we can't risk antagonizing the general Afghan
population.  I can't see the Northern Alliance taking over.  And I
can't see a Liberal Democracy being installed either.  

This is the really tough problem.  I guess if we get any sort of
government that doesn't allow terrorist camps we should be happy.
