I dunno - the Taliban seemed to me to be playing for time, rather than actually negotiating. Their threats against the imprisoned aid workers were not exactly nice, either. > What about our dropping food packages for civilians? Possibly, but if the people are hungry enough, they'll more than likely eat them anyway. I think bombing them with butter, so to speak, is an excellent way of ensuring this is not depicted as a crusade against the Afghan people. The most important long-term thing we've got to do is make sure we remain committed to stable nation building, as if we leave another vacuum in Afghanistan, we're setting everything up for the Pakistanis to create another Taliban. > I for one have friends in uniform who may be over there already, or who may > be going over there in the near future. Anyone else? Not in my immediate circle yet, but one of my friends is ex-special forces, and all of his friends from his unit are out of touch. He's pretty sure that at least *some* of them are already over there. > Anyone getting the feeling that some higher power doesn't want the Emmy > awards to be presented? ;-) And this is bad, how?
