Local governments try to keep neighbourhoods mixed and integrated. The
mixing does not work perfectly, though. Many members of ethnic minorities
tend to have a low income, either because they are unemployed or because
their lack of education and command of the Dutch language lands them in
low-income jobs. You cannot house someone with a minimum income in a
high-rent house, so there is an unfortunate but unavoidable tendency of
ethnic minorities being housed in some of the "lesser" neighbourhoods.

Jeroen,

Thanks very much for answering that particular question -- I found it very enlighting.  Your description reminds me of most of the larger, well integrated cities in the US.

I've just barely started reading the NL news through the "Expatriate" site (it was pretty much the only english language site I could find that could give me current events info about your homeland).  I've had very little time, but will give it more attention over the next few days as my schedule permits.  I am still curious about the possibility of Dutch bias crimes as they might have been reported by the NL media recently. It's really by no means a comprehensive overview, but I'll read through whatever Dutch news sites I find translated into English and let the list know what I find when I have a moment over the next few days.

Jon
