I wonder what solutions Mr. Buchanna proposes?
I was browsing through Julia's copy of Wilson's _Consilience_ a few days ago, and based on an admittedly cursory inspection, it appears to me that Buchannan and Wilson are worried about the same phenomena from polar opposite perspectives. The phenomena is a rapidly growing world population in which competitions for resources and ethnic dominance will be exacerbated by the universal desire to achieve western standards of wealth. Wilson forsees the consequences in terms of war, famine, disease, and environmental ruin, the chief tragedies being long-term damage to the earth and the suffering of billions of people in the developing nations. Buchannan appears to see the chief tragedy as the possible demise of white Christian conservatism (i.e. "Western Civilization" aka the GOP). Marvin Long Austin, Texas
