So you are suggesting that US support for Israel is an of political expedience by our leaders? That all of the moral arguements are irrelevent? That we should not on principle support a democratic state in a region notably short on democracy? Israel has rightfully been subjected to criticsm in the US for some of its policies (e.g. Lebanon and the West Bank Settlements) but by and large they have been remarkably ethical in a horrendous situation. This is a vibrant democracy with a free and unhibited press. Despite their flaws they deserve our support and that is what they get. I see no evidence that the US unquestionably supports every thing that Israel does. In fact the US has pushed Israel constantly to settle with the Arabs. There is a strong pro-arab anti-israel tradition in the state department that is still present.
