Gautam,

I apologize if I offended you. Looks like my ignorance is showing! I
admit that I based my perception more on current happenings and not on
history. I'm not entirely sure I believe that the attack on the Indian
parlaiment in December was orchestrated with the knowledge of the
Pakistani government. And I can't help but be skeptical of anything
that any government says.

I admit to concern because both India and Pakistan have shown themselves
capable of detonating nuclear devices, and the idea of a conflict
involving nuclear powers anywhere in the world frightens me.

As one foreign minister said to another in an old issue of _Preacher_:
"This may be a naive and silly thing to say, but why can't people just
be nice to each other for a change?"

No need to apologize - but I have to say that I was stunned by what I was
reading. I know that some people have said things like that - but no one I
consider in the mainstream or worth listening to, and it was weird to see
you say something like that.

If a conflict between India and Pakistan scares you, think about how I
feel - I can't even count the number of my relatives who would be killed
were such a war to go nuclear. But there are some things more important
than that - and one of them is making sure that things like the attack on
the Parliament never, ever, ever happen again.

While I doubt that Musharraf approved the attack, the ISI has supported
those organizations right from their inception, and Musharraf has refused to
do anything to suppress them - he has, in fact, encouraged them a great
deal - since the moment he took office. He is thus responsible for their
actions, even if he didn't approve of this particular one.
