play Civ.

We *know* that we must have gunpowder before building nukes
and destroying the whole world. Middle-age alchemists didn't.
So, they had to research Astrology, the Philosopher's Stone, etc,
together with Chemistry, Metallurgy, etc.

IMHO, Civ should be *fuzzy* about what is science and what is bogus.
IOW, there should be some kind of hidden variables that say that
the _world_ is x% science, y% faith, z% mind-powers, etc. And if
you research Gunpowder in order to defend Buffalo with 
Mosqueteers, maybe your opponent is researching 
Advanced Hymns and will blast your city walls to dust!
