A while back on the list, perhaps four years ago, an autobiographical thread was initiated and the response was terrific. Most of the active list members and many lurkers responded with at least some personal information. It was fascinating to see the scope, professionally, geographically and personally, of the subscribers.
I think we attempted to do it again once but for some reason, the thread didn't take off. In any case, I'd like to try it again. Maybe it would help personalize the list a little bit - take it a little farther beyond words printed on a computer screen. I'll break the ice. Please don't feel compelled to contribute as much information as I do below (or be limited to that much), or for that matter to contribute anything at all, but I hope people get into the spirit of the thing. My name is Doug Pensinger, I'm 47 and I live in Morgan Hill California, about 20 miles South of San Jose. I commute (by train and bicycle as often as possible) to Palo Alto, about 40 miles north where I work as a test engineer in the R&D labs of a major aerospace company. I've been married to my wife, Emiko, for 24 years as of Monday, and have two children, Christina, 23, and Greg, 21, both of whom have long time companions but are not yet married. We have three dogs, two parakeets and a rabbit. I don't have a college degree, though I spent several years going to night school in the eighties - mostly general ed. I received extensive electronics training in the Navy. I was enlisted for six years, 1974 to 1980, spending about two in San Diego where I received my training (and met my wife), three in Groton, Connecticut where my boat, the USS Narwhal, SSN 671, was home ported, and one year in Charleston South Carolina where the Narwhal was being overhauled. My rate in the navy was Sonar Technician, Submarines, and I thought I had the best job on the boat. Some of my interests are, in no particular order, reading (science fiction and history primarily), hiking and backpacking, beach volleyball, music (mostly rock), bicycling, and of course brin-l to which I've been subscribed for about 4 1/2 of the last 5 years. I guess that'll do for now. Next.... 8^) -- Doug email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.zo.com/~brighto
