The reason I think the list is hospitable to new posters is that it seems 
like everytime I see an email from a new person, it's followed by a lot of 
"welcome to the list, tell us about yourself" replies, and they all seem 
very genuine.

Now, when a new list member disagrees with a long-time member, things may be 
a little different...  ;-)

I haven't been on a lot of other lists, but generally I'm used to early 
posts being ignored or dismissed with, "you're new here, aren't you."  I've 
never seen that on this list.  Of course, my other list and newsgroup 
experiences might very well not be typical.  YMMV
