I may be wrong on this, but what I remember reading was something to the
effect of, he and his editor Campbell had somewhat differing ideas about
aliens, so he figured he'd avoid conflict by restricting his universe to
humanity. I'm not sure which of my books would have that info, and I
don't feel like digging today, but if someone remembers "Yeah, that was
in book X" and I have book X, I can look for it sometime later.
