Yes, there seem to be obvious reasons why anti-abortionists would oppose the
new technology, but wouldn't they support it for just as many reasons?  An
artificial womb might provide a nice alternative to abortion, despite the
"unnatural" environment, and would allow children to survive to term.

I agree, if it works and there is a safe way of making the transfer from
potential mother to vat then that could mean many fewer abortions. One
wonders, though, about who would then be responsible for supporting the
child and so on. It should certainly open up a much better route for
children to be adopted, if nothing else. But there are quite a few ifs in
there.

Mainly, though, I'm going by the opposition from those groups to existing
technologies such as IVF, let alone cloning and the like. Never understood
it but it is a very, very strong opposition, at least here in Australia.
