I'm curious: if we're tracking the first few people to respond to a thread, will time zone make a difference? For example, if the majority of listmembers are Americans, then we'd expect connections to skew towards Americans because they're more likely to respond quickly to one another than somebody in another hemisphere who might be asleep when the majority of threads are spawned.
