[much snipped] I think it's interested how some of David Brin's beliefs seem to intersect with Libertarianism. Libertarians believe that personal responsibility and liberty are the most important things in life. David Brin believes in the importance of personal responsibility also, and believes that we should all take personal responsibility to "watch the watchers" in order to insure our liberty. >From http://www.libertarian.org/, "In the libertarian view, governments should be held to the same standards of right and wrong as individuals." This is exactly what DB is saying about transparency, right? That if it is right for the government to watch the public, then the public should be able to watch the government (i.e., to have oversight)? Of course, I'm not suggesting that DB is libertarian or that his views are 100% compatible with libertarianism, it's just that I had recently been reading about existentialism and found a link that talked about an existential basis for libertarianism, then I read the interview... Just a random though. Reggie Bautista _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
