BSOD are mostly caused by hardware related conflicts. Running a OS that is
7+ years old could be culprit. Try running System 6 on a new IMAC (If it
even possible) and see if there are issues. MAC's have far fewer issues
because they (Apple)employed strict control over the software and hardware
that would work with Mac's - Fewer options means fewer problems. IT is also
the primary reason Mac's lost to the PC. People complain about PC's
crashing, but they still buy them. The reason is flexibility.

In regards to Linux or any other Unix, they are only stable when they have
been customized to the hardware it is running on Recompiling the Kernel).

Many people do not use certified hardware (WHQL)with the Windows version
they are running.

As Alberto mentions so frequently, to run the new OS's you need new
hardware.

You can 'dis OS'es forever, but it is meaningless unless you look at the
whole picture - hardware, software, QA, and industry standards.

I also don't want to hear about how great Open Source is. Every open source
application I have used has been buggy, non-standard, and difficult to
manage.
