I've seen this AOL thing come up several times on various lists and I'd like to understand it better. Surely it's possible to use Outlook or Eudora or TheBat or whatever together with a free POP account and not have to use AOL's mail system at all (while still using AOL as an ISP and its IM system and whatever). I don't think I'd ever use my ISP's mail services, simply because I'd like to keep my mail account and my ISP separate because the latter is likely to change much more often than the former. Except for getting me on the Net in the first place I don't plan to use my ISP for anything. Until recently I would've recommended use of GMX.net for POP mailboxes, but it now only has a sign-up interface in German. There must be plenty of other places that provide free POP services though. Oh, and if anyone would like an @theculture.org redirection address then mail me off-list telling me the required user name and the account you'd like it to redirect to and I'll set it up for you.
