That's how I was reading it.  The dittos are any color *but* brown,
while regular humans are varying shades of brown.

Even with comingling to a great degree, there would probably be
variations from one tan to another -- skin shade can vary enough between
siblings *now* that I don't think that even after generations of
comingling on a much greater scale than we have now that humanity would
all end up the same exact shade.  It just wouldn't matter as much to as
many of them.
