Thanks for clarifying things.  This leads me to ask three more questions.

So, one does not forfeit anything by attacking a country with the intent to
utterly destroy it and its people?  Traditionally, if such a country loses
the war, the ensuing peace results in a redrawn border.  Do you argue  that
this "common law" of war is mistaken?

Then,  would this also apply to territories that were taken from Germany and
Japan after WWII, and from Germany, Russia, and Austria-Hungary during WWI?

Are you also suggesting that U.N. resolution 242 should not be considered
the operative resolution to resolve this conflict?  This resolution calls
for full peace in response to Israel returning territories.  Interestingly
enough, it specifically _does not_ say "the territories" or "all
territories."  One of the negotiators who helped with the drafting of this
resolution states stated that the language was deliberate...opening the door
for only some of the land to be returned as part of peace.
